Welcome to the Toledo in London Blog.
I am Paulette Huber, a community volunteer and member of the previous Finkbeiner administration. This is my initial posting to share all of the latest about the City of Toledo’s efforts to be named the most Liveable Community in the World!
Nearly two months ago, we learned that Toledo was named as a finalist for the 2007 Liveable Communities Award. Since that time, a team of dedicated officials and volunteers have pulled together to compete for Gold in London.
Launched in 1996, this United Nations endorsed award focuses on six specific criteria regarding best management practices focusing on the environment and creation of liveable communities. Toledo has already been selected as one of seven of the most Liveable Communities with a population between 200,001 – 750,000. Other cities that have been named as finalists include Edogawa City, Japan; Lyon, France; Malmo, Sweden; Manukau, New Zealand; the Regional Municipality of Niagra, Canada; and Wenjiang, PR China.
Each of these cities has been invited to attend the 2007 Liveable Communities conference, the LivCom Awards, in Westminster, London from November 22 – 26. Our 40-minute multi-media presentation will provide a snapshot of Toledo and focus on the six judging criteria: Enhancement of the Landscape; Heritage Management; Environmentally-Sensitive Practices; Community Sustainability; Healthy Lifestyles; and Planning for the Future.
If you’d like to learn more about this awards program or view submissions from previous winners, visit LivCom Awards at www.livcomawards.com.
From now until December 1, please check back regularly to learn more about what the Toledo delegation is doing to prepare for the presentation, our trip and the conference in London.

Thank you very much for creating this blog and I am looking forward to the posts while you are in London.
:-)
Oh yes, this blog promises to be very interesting indeed.
Your first post was at 4:18AM. You must be a volunteer; anyone volunteered would protest those hours. You probably don't even have time to eat!
Better get some rest for the flight.
Good luck Team!!! Hope the trip went well.A little snow here this morning and lots of rain last night.
Keep us posted on what is happening and thanks to all of you that worked so hard to get us there.

Happy Thanksgiving Team Toledo!
Good luck in London.
Paulette H.:
Here is inspiration to get the English blog started from the best and the worst English female writers:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."
opening sentence, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
"Have you ever visited that portion of Erin's plot that offers its sympathetic soil for the minute survey and scrutinous examination of those in political power, whose decision has wisely been the means before now of converting the stern and prejudiced, and reaching the hand of slight aid to share its strength in augmenting its agricultural richness?"
opening sentence, Delina Delaney by Amanda McKittrick Ros
Becoming Jane requires perfect irony.
Glad to hear all is well there. If you know when the presentation is broadcast let us know.
A few exciting things going on here but nothing we cant handle so tell the Mayor to relax and enjoy.
Sunny and in the 30s here---expected to warm up over the weekend.
Good luck tommorrow!!!
